Desert
Dunes Golf Club sits on 174 acres of desert south of Desert Hot Springs.
Designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr. in 1988, Desert Dunes rose to prominence in
the golfing world when in 1990, Golf Digest rated it as the 29th best public
facility in the United States. Desert Dunes has been a secret favorite of local
golfers since the day it opened.
Desert Dunes championship layout is cut through the desert mesquite with two
holes completely lined with Tamarisk trees. The course features two beautiful
lakes, lush fairways, generous greens and some of the most picturesque views of
any golf course in Coachella Valley.
The first desert course designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr. Voted as one of the
best public courses in Southern California. Laid out among large dunes and
mature desert trees. Has a unique Scottish links flavor. The par-3 fifth hole
requires a long tee shot over a desert setting with a mesquite backdrop. Bent
grass greens. Ranked in top 50 public courses in the country.
Desert Dunes is one of the only courses you can play in the desert without condo
lined fairways and traffic noise. It is truly like a stroll through the untamed
natural desert. Special care was taken to not disturb the natural lay of the
land of the animals that inhabit the area. During a round of golf at Desert
Dunes, it is no uncommon to see rabbits, roadrunners, red-tailed hawks, coyotes,
owls and even an occasional desert kit fox.
The
views at the Desert Dunes are refreshing, making you forget the hectic like you
left behind. The air is unbelievably clean in the desert and the sky is high and
has a deep blue hue. You will find solitude on this desert course. Everything is
quiet and the golfers can focus on the ball and the sound of impact. Desert
Dunes has peaceful and mysterious surroundings. When your tired mind and eyes
are opened to nature, concentration prevails.
At the Desert Dunes, you can expect to be treated like a professional, with
outstanding service and dedication to excellence. The design of this
championship course will challenge even the best of golfers. Indulge yourself to
a desert get-a-way that is filled with nature and its serenity.
"The character of Desert Dunes is like the Links land of Scotland"
- Robert Trent Jones, Jr., Court Designer
